Spouse event: Japanese Paper Construction
You are invited to participate in a creative construction craft endeavor.
Spend some special time with your SPRI friends while learning the traditional art of decorating with Japanese washi paper. SPRI staff member Robin Balin will lead you in a simple, step by step process on how to produce 2 unique items that you will take home as gifts for yourself or others. No previous craft experience is necessary!
Washi comes from wa meaning Japanese and shi meaning paper. The term is used to describe paper made by hand in the traditional manner from the bark of the gampi tree, the mitsumata shrub or the paper mulberry.
Robin acquired the skill and appreciation of Japanese papers and culture during the three years she lived in Tokyo. She will provide all materials, including a wide selection of papers to choose from.
