It’s been estimated that up to 60% of reported damage to commercial roofs is due to high winds. It is therefore critical to understand how wind impacts the roof, and how to design to protect the facility.
With this in mind SPRI will host a six-hour Wind Design Seminar on October 16, 2024, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Charlotte Concord, in Concord, NC.
Presented by a list of top industry experts from SPRI member companies, the Wind Design Seminar will provide a detailed overview of how wind can impact commercial structures and include practical examples of roofing performance observed during post storm evaluations.
The expert presenters include:
- Chadwick Collins, technical director of SPRI
- Brian Chamberlain, architect/code specialist, Carlisle Construction Materials, Inc.
- Colin Griswold, codes approvals engineering leader, OMG Roofing Products
- Sean Koren, EPDM product engineer, Holcim Building Envelope
- Bob LeClare, director of perimeter edge, ATAS International, Inc.
- Chris Mader, code & certification manager, Blue Ridge Fiberboard.
In addition to the detailed discussion of how wind can affect commercial structures, the presentation will include:
- Pre-session introductory video
- Review of ASCE 7 versions and changes
- Potential Impact of FM Property Loss Prevention Data Sheets 1-28 & 1-29
- An overview of current and working SPRI Standards
- Demonstration of DORA® and RoofNav systems
The full Seminar will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a Beginner’s ‘Introduction to Wind Design’ session, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and a lunch break from 12 noon to 1 p.m. A networking reception will follow the full seminar from 5 to 6 p.m.
