    • Roof Drainage Assessment using LiDAR
      April 22, 2021 | 12:00 – 12:45 PM ETThe program will discuss the problem of ponding water on roofs, and the current limited ways to assess and mitigate ponding. A new novel approach to analyzing the existing roof drainage conditions including ponding water assessments will be presented using LiDAR. A case study will be presented of a field (terrestrial) LiDAR scan that was performed on a existing roof with ponding in East Tennessee. Next steps and other LiDAR Applications for Roofing are discussed.About the SpeakersMike Sexton in a Building Enclosure Consultant and roofing subject matter expert with over 20 years of experience in the commercial low slope roofing industry. He has experience in many different engineering, sales, marketing and technical positions including work with roofing research and development facilities, manufacturers, contractors and consultants. Primarily, his area of expertise is in single ply roofing system design and applications and integrated roof accessory systems, e.g. Solar PV systems, Green Vegetative Roofs, Daylighting and Facility Energy Management. Mike has published a number of peer reviewed articles on roofing and has had the opportunity to present at and attend many industry events over the years as a current or former member of groups such as IIBEC; ASTM-D08; ICC; NRCA; SPRI; CRRC; USGBC. Mike is currently the Vice President of the IIBEC Mid-South Chapter, representing members in KY and TN and works as a Sr. Facilities Professional with Terracon, in Nashville, TN. Mike holds bachelor degrees in both Biology/Geology and Environmental Engineering and is a Registered Roof Observer (RRO) and a Certified Solar Roofing Professional (CSRP).

      Josiah Lau is an Engineer with an MBA degree from the Haskayne School of Business. He is a co-founder of Novlum, a software company specializing in 3D data processing, real-time visualization and analysis for over 13 years. Novlum has been working with 3D laser scanning since 2014, and continues to stretch the applications for this technology. Novlum’s uniTank software has been used to assess over 230 aboveground storage tanks for structural compliance and containment sufficiency.
